Joey Meen has been involved in the Superyacht Industry for nearly 28 years. Having started her career running the Plymouth Sailing School, she joined Freedom Yachting in Antibes in 2002. During this time, Joey became heavily involved in training regulations and qualifications.
In 2004 Joey was an integral part of the original working group with the RYA, on the development of the onboard Personal Water Craft Safety certification designed specifically for yachts, for owners , guests and crew. With nearly 300 yachts now operating as RYA Training Centres, Joey is still very much involved with onboard audits and assisting yachts with setting up their operating procedures.
Recognising the need for crew to be able to get unbiased information and advice on their career paths, Joey set up her 'Ask Joey' business to assist and inform crew at all levels. Joey helps crew with advice on qualifications, training, careers, yachts, problems onboard and applications.
In 2005, the Professional Yachting Association asked Joey to become a council member and represent yacht crew at the Large Yacht Qualification Panel, and appointed her as Training and Certification Director thanks to her extensive knowledge in this field. Furthermore, Joey is responsible for the development of the PYA Yacht Interior Crew Training and Certification Program GUEST - Guidelines for Unified Excellence in Service Training.
