Attention all deck crew: Important changes to the new course deadlines for Efficient Deckhand (EDH) and Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS).
There have been some changes to the introduction dates for some of the new courses, all of which were previously due to come into force on the 31st of August 2013.
Both the Efficient Deckhand (EDH) and Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) will be required as OOW modules from January 1st 2014 giving Yacht crew an extra 4 months to apply and sit their Oral Exams. Please also note that all deck COC's issued without an ECDIS certificate will be issued with the endorsement 'Not for use on ECDIS fitted ships after 2017.'
Please note the August 31st date remains valid for the Human Element, Leadership and Management (HELM) courses for both OOW/ Y4 level and Masters/ Y3+ level. Candidates applying for the Oral exam Notice of Eligibility (NOE) after this date will still be required to supply HELM certification.
