Bluewater’s involvement with MYBA
As a long-standing member of MYBA it is only natural for our employees to actively contribute to this association by joining various committees.
This year saw our Director of
Training John Wyborn being elected for a new position on the board, heading up the
Competency, Education & Training Committee. This new training workgroup is a reflection of changes in how members of the yachting industry view professional learning, with the recognition that the highest standards of training are required to best serve yacht owners. This workgroup will continue to communicate with the Maritime Skills Alliance in the UK to set training standards for new crew and hopes to achieve Chartered status for both crew and brokers, yacht managers and shore based professionals, to promote continuous learning.
Rebecca Cutter, our
Charter Manager, is on the Boat Show Committee, assisting with the organisation of the annual MYBA Charter Show, newly located in Barcelona in 2017. This is an event not to be missed by yacht charter professionals, attended by the most prestigious charter agencies and brokers globally. The exhibition is a select showcase of luxury charter yachts, allowing attendees the opportunity to visit the yachts on show, meet the crew, and sample the chefs’ talent before placing their recommendations with their clients.
Zelda Swindell, our Head of Charter Marketing, is on the Charter Committee, who monitor the charter market and the continually evolving charter regulations in all the popular charter destinations, referring potential changes and issues to the Tax & Law Committee where relevant. This Committee is responsible for drafting all the charter documents used by the MYBA Members, and in some cases, by the
YACHTFOLIO Subscribers and the industry at large before these go to legal counsel. The Committee also regularly reviews and revises, if necessary, the
MYBA Charter Agreement. Its expert Members respond to Members’ queries regarding interpretation of the MYBA Charter Agreement.
