deckhand who holds their
Yachtmaster Offshore? An
engineer with their
AEC2?
Then we want to help you advance your career and pay for your training courses.
We understand what a difficult couple of years this has been in yachting, our scholarship programme will allow four chosen crew members, two deck and two engineering, to complete all the courses needed to achieve their
MCA OOW (Yacht) certificate or
Small Vessels EOOW, the old Y4.
What is the process?
The
application deadline has been extended until
17th October, following feedback from crew who are on a late season and haven’t yet had time to complete their submission.
The successful candidates will be chosen by an independent jury comprising seven respected figures from across the yachting and maritime industries, including captains, chief engineers and shore-based companies and associations.
The selected candidates will be able to book courses from November.

What do you need to apply for the scholarship?
This is not a programme for new crew; you must have a valid ENG1, have completed STCW crew basic training and either your Yachtmaster Offshore or AEC 2.
Complete the application form and tell the jury why you think you should win this scholarship.
You should ask your captain, senior crew or management company for supporting references.

The total cost of the courses being offered amounts to around €40,000.
So be sure you are committed, enthusiastic and ready to study for your certificates!
Here’s the small print!
• The scholarship does not cover any external written or oral examination fees.
• The scholarship does not include any accommodation or travel costs.
• We will ask you to take part in interviews with our marketing team.
• The scholarship courses must be completed over two years.
• PSC&RB is only available in Antibes - expenses will not be paid for if you need to travel for this course.
• If you fail a written exam and the subsequent re-sit, the scholarship does not cover the fees for the second course.
• Scholarship only available in Europe.

30 YEARS OF TRAINING AND RECRUITING SEAFARERS:
John Wyborn, our Director of Training, founded Bluewater in 1991 with Peter Bennett, who oversees the yacht sales and charter team, and Phillip Holden, who oversees the management department.
John is President of MYBA (the worldwide yachting association), is on the board of the Professional Yachting Association (PYA) and is a board member of the International Association of Maritime Institutions (IAMI).
He joined the Royal Navy as a seaman officer after university and served on various types of vessels including frigates, destroyers, and finally in command of
HMS Mentor; a navigation and seamanship training vessel teaching RN trainees and foreign navies.
Training is at the heart of everything he does and John is very much looking forward to taking the programme forward and meeting the chosen candidates.
