Bluewater Training is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. We take the data protection and privacy of our clients very seriously and have a range of policies, processes and technical measures in place to safeguard your personal information.

What is personal data?

According to the law, personal data means any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual. An identifiable person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, by different pieces of information, which collected together can lead to the identification of a particular person.

What is the purpose of this policy?

The objective of our privacy policy is to inform you how we manage the personal data we collect from you. Bluewater Training, as stipulated in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is responsible for all the personal data we collect. The purpose of this policy is to:

  • How do we use the data we collect and who do we share it with
  • How long are we required to keep your personal information
  • How can you access your personal data
  • How to notify us if any of your personal information is wrong, how to inform us about any changes and how to request that we remove it

What data do we collect?

Information that you communicate to us:

The personal information we collect might include your name, address, email address, phone number (landline and/or mobile) and date of birth.

If you book a Bluewater Training course the personal information collected is extended to further personal details, such as: gender, place of birth, nationality, professional qualifications, next of kin contact details, passport number and/or Seaman’s Discharge Book. The details we collect may include the name of the vessel that employs you. For students attending a course that has a practical component will be required to complete a Health Declaration that we will keep in your personal record.

If you are aged 16 or under please get your parent/guardian’s permission beforehand whenever you provide us with personal information.

Information that we collect from you (Cookies)

A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer’s hard drive. Once you agree, the file is added and the cookie helps analyse web traffic or lets you know when you visit a particular site. Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual. The web application can tailor its operations to your needs, likes, and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences.

We use traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps us analyse data about web page traffic and improve our website in order to tailor it to customer needs. We only use this information for statistical analysis purposes and then the data is removed from the system.

How is your data used?

We use your data for to carry out our obligations arising to process booking made by you for short training courses, issue of certificates at the end of your course and maintain internal records of the courses you have attended.

We will also use your personal data:

  • To send you information on events, offers, news and campaigns.
  • To contact you for marketing purposes.
  • To contact you for market research purposes.

Your information will only be accessed and processed by authorised Bluewater personnel who are directly involved in the management and administration of the data management systems and who have a legitimate need to access your information.

Who do we share your information with?

Third party service providers

We may pass your information to our third party service providers, subcontractors and other associated organisations for the purposes of completing tasks and providing services to you on our behalf. However, when we use third party service providers, we disclose only the personal information that is necessary to deliver the service and we have a contract in place that requires them to keep your information secure and not to use it for their own direct marketing purposes. Please be advised that we will not release your information to third parties for them to use for their own direct marketing purposes, unless you have authorised us to do so.

Government authorities or administrations

Bluewater Training will share your personal data when submitting an application for a written engineering or deck examination with the SQA and IAMI.

How long do we keep your personal information?

Bluewater Training is required to maintain records of STCW endorsed certificates issued until the 70th birthday of the certificate holder or five years from the date of issue whichever is the longer. However, we will maintain records of courses that you have attended for a duration of 30 years from the date of your booking.

How you can control the personal information we hold?

You may choose to update or restrict the collection or use of your personal information as follows:

  • You may request details of personal information which we hold about you. If you would like a copy of the information held on you please write to info@bluewateryachting.com.
  • If you believe that any information we are holding on you is incorrect or incomplete, please email us as soon as possible at info@bluewateryachting.com. We will promptly correct any information found to be incorrect.
  • If you have previously agreed to us using your personal information for direct marketing purposes, you may change your mind at any time by writing to or emailing us at info@bluewateryachting.com.
  • We will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties unless we have your permission or are required by law to do so. We may use your personal information to send you promotional information about third parties which we think you may find interesting.

Individuals are entitled only to their own personal data, and not to information relating to other people unless they are acting on behalf of that person. In these circumstances, written consent will be required.

Bluewater Training will comply with requests for access to personal information as quickly as is practicable, but will ensure that the information is provided within 30 days, as required by GDPR.

Security

We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. Your information is stored on systems that are protected by technical measures which meet international quality assurance standards and are backed up on a regular basis.
