Please note that this is a half day theory course and meets the criteria to provide evidence of maintaining the required standard of competence in Advanced Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting. This is also referred to as the Advanced Fire Fighting Refresher. 
There will be theoretical elements to refresh your knowledge and understanding of the principles; fire fighting procedures at sea and in port, with particular emphasis on organisation, tactics and command; communication and coordination during fire-fighting operations; ventilation control, including smoke extraction. Also covered will be control of fuel and electrical systems, fire fighting process hazards (dry distillation, chemical reactions, boiler uptake, fires) and fire precautions and hazards associated with the storage and handling of materials. Management and control of injured persons and the procedures for coordination with shore-based fire fighters additionally are defined as learning outcomes. 
For admittance to this theory course, seafarers must sign the self-declaration form as a pre-requisite to provide evidence of hot wears within the preceding five years at an MCA approved training centre. This form is distributed by the training provider.
