Why to Charter a Yacht in Sicily & The Aeolian Islands

It is universally acknowledged that the best way to visit Sicily is by superyacht. With its large coastline — Sicily is the Mediterranean’s largest island —a private yacht allows you to explore this dramatic volcanic landscape in utter luxury.

A Sicily superyacht charter takes in the very best of mainland Sicily and its UNESCO-listed Aeolian Islands. Pass your days swimming off glittering black sand beaches and cliffs of blinding white pumice, wandering vineyards, and orange groves overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Listen to opera in clifftop amphitheatres and dance with the beautiful people on hotel terraces where Cary Grant and Greta Garbo once milled among the crowd. Explore cities of palazzos and grand piazzas, eat extraordinary food, and walk among the shadows of some of the world’s finest ancient Greek temples — a legacy from when Sicily was part of Greater Greece.

The drama of this land continues under the surface. Scuba dive in Sicily to experience a fantastical underwater landscape of bubbling fumaroles, vast caves, volcanic sea stacks and a place where the pumice stone glows white as if the undersea world were cloaked in snow.

And when your day is done—the Mediterranean sun glowing on your cheeks, the hint of salt still drying on your skin— return to your yacht and allow the captain and crew to take care of you, eating a candlelit dinner by the silvering sea and falling into bed in your opulent cabin. Each morning, wake in a new and enchanting place.

When to

Charter a Yacht in Sicily & The Aeolian Islands

With abundant sunshine and sparkling seas, Sicily has a long potential yachting season, stretching from May to October.

The peak yachting season in Sicily is in the lively summer months of August and July when the sea is gloriously warm, and air temperatures soar up to 30 degrees and beyond.

Those looking for less scorching temperatures and quieter anchorages will find that late spring (late May — June) or early autumn (Sep — mid-Oct) is the best time to charter a yacht in Sicily. The beach club season is particularly long in Sicily, with most beach clubs remaining open from May 1st to October 31st. Those cruising in autumn will also enjoy the start of the harvest festivals. Spring charters may coincide with the spectacular Noto Flower Festival, while summer charterers might book a Sicily yacht charter to coincide with the famous Taormina Film Festival.
