Why charter in Antarctica
Is there a contrast so extreme in all the world than the sight of a superyacht— a stunning symbol of worldly luxury— sitting in a bay in the white wastes of Antarctica? Part of the wild and freeing joy of a yacht charter in Antarctica is the emotional whiplash of the experience. Days spent ashore in a cold and forbidding landscape, feet crunching on snow, face chilled, eyes wide to the adventure, only to return to the yacht with its soft carpets and private chef, its Jacuzzi steaming invitingly. This is a journey to remind you that you are alive, to revel in both the harshness and heady luxury of life.

Under the
Midnight Sun
Almost 24-hour daylight gives you endless opportunities for striking out on Antarctic adventures. No-one can ever forget kayaking past cool blue icebergs, or walking through a raucous penguin colony on a beach. Visit old whaling stations in the Shetland Islands, bathe in hot volcanic pools on Deception Island, or strap on snowshoes and hike through the snowy landscape. When the day is done, take tired muscles and full hearts back to the yacht to sip on whisky or hot cocoa as your yacht drops anchor in a lonely fjord at the bottom of the world.

When to
charter
Luxury yachts can visit Antarctica in between November and March. The season peaks in December and January when days are at their longest, there is less wind, and temperatures often rise above 0 degrees Celsius. Summer is also when wildlife is at its most active, and you may wish to plan your charter around certain species. For high whale activity, plan your charter towards the end of the season, while to see emperor seals breeding, you’ll want to go early. Penguin chick sightings are at their adorable best in January. For an Antarctic Circle crossing, February is ideal.
The Right Yacht,
the Right People
While any seaworthy motor or sailing yacht capable of crossing Drake Passage can cruise Antarctica, certain superyachts and expedition yachts are supremely well-equipped for remote and cold climate cruising. Yachts with specialist crew like marine biologists, masseuses and adventure guides are particularly sought after, while onboard amenities like spas or a winter garden will deliver a much-enhanced Antarctic experience.

Superyacht marinas in Antarctica
Antarctic yacht charters most commonly commence in Ushuaia, Argentina, and cross Drake Passage to the Antarctic Peninsula. Alternatively, charter guests can sometimes fly to King George Island and skip the Drake Passage crossing, which can be very rough. There are no marinas anywhere in Antarctic waters, so guests will be at anchor for the duration of the charter. Bluewater will work hand-in-glove with the yacht’s captain, expedition guides and regulatory bodies to ensure that every element of your Antarctica charter is meticulously planned and executed.
