Brooke Yachts are builders of luxury motor yachts and sailing yachts in the finest British tradition. Initially the company built cars and car engines, but the production of cars stopped in 1913, despite engine production continuing until 1938. Based in Lowestoft, the company was founded in 1874 and specialised in the construction of boats and small ships; they also built minor warships for a while. In the early 1900s, the company expanded into building boats and ships and continued until 1992. Its first shipyard opened in 1911 and built a second one in 1954; a year before the old one was closed and eventually sold 20 years later. In May 1987, the company began trading under the new name Brooke Yachts, but ceased trading in 1992. Finally, Brooke Marine Yachts Ltd. from 2006 until 2009 before the company officially closed down.
